Around Mont Mégantic 115 (150 km if you go to the observatory) Difficulty Level: very difficult The starting point is in the village of La Patrie 1. Proceed northbound on route 257 toward Scotstown. About 7 km. After your departure on the left hand side of the road you will find a tap with source water, it may be a good idea to fill up. 2. In Scotstown turn right to take route 214 towards Milan . You are in the forest but be careful about the railroad tracks in the descents 3. In Milan after the Cross take the left branch of the road towards Nantes (For the shortcut go to No 10) 4. Intercept route 161 towards Lac Mégantic. The traffic will be a bit heavier. Once in Lac Mégantic there is a nice park along the shore take a little break and some provision you will need them. 5. To exit Lac Mégantic take Agnes street it is also route 161 southbound towards Woburn 6. When you pass in Woburn you are only 5 km. From the border of the state of Maine.To your left is Mont Gosford the highest peak in the Township (1180m.). 7. The first climb after Woburn last 5 km.the beautiful scenery will help you during this meditation. Eventually you will end up in Notre Dame des Bois the highest village in Québec. If you want to add some challenge to this ride and do 30 more km it is decision time. To climb or not to climb Mont Megantic? 8. To go to Mont Mégantic observatory turn right in Notre Dame des Bois on route de Chesham then about 2 km. Later left on route Du Park you cannot miss it. 9. If you decided not to go to the summit proceed again on route 212 to La Patrie, it is mostly downhill all the way. The short way 73km or 104 if you climb to the summit of Mont Mégantic 10. In Milan turn right on Chemin du Lac McKenzie then right a few km later on rang 10 or chemin Milan-Chesham towards Val Racine. There is 16 km of unpaved road but it is wide and usually well maintained. After Val Racine stay on the same road to Notre Dame des Bois. 11. If you do desire to climb Mont Mégantic then turn right on chemin du Parc and proceed to satisfy your ego. 12. Once in Notre Dame des Bois turn right towards La Patrie it is mainly downhill all the way. 13. Beer time. | |
